This past weekend AST's 40th National Convention took place in Atlanta! The attendees from the Psi Chapter really enjoyed their time meeting sisters from around the country and learning more about our sisterhood.
I cannot even begin to describe the amazing experience I had
at convention. The people I met, connections I made and the things I learned
about myself and AST will forever stay with me. Throughout convention, we
repeatedly talked about defining moments. This convention was a defining moment
for me. I am now more excited than ever to reunite with my sisters, continue to
uphold our values and to better myself and the Psi chapter each and every day.
If I had to choose my favorite thing about convention it would
definitely be the connections I made. Meeting alumnae and members of other AST
chapters was inspiring and eye-opening. Seeing the women on National Council
and Headquarter staff make a career out of their sorority experience proves
that the sisterhood of Alpha Sigma Tau is for life, and not just four years.
Ever since I was initiated into the Psi chapter I have been following Chris
Covington on social media and was determined to meet her. Intimidated at first,
my sisters and I finally met her and realized how amazingly inspiring, positive
and easy to talk to she was. Jamie Jones Miller is an amazing Psi alumna who inspired
all of us by proving that you can do anything you want to. Jamie’s busy life
basically proves that when you love something and are passionate anything is
possible. Ashley Smith works at headquarters and shared many memories of her
years at Psi. Ashley was the past Recruitment Chair and is now an amazing
Recruitment Specialist who shared her tips and tricks to many ASTs. Charlotte
Floyd is a Psi alumna who is 89 and still connected with AST!
She told us that
she continues to host her sisters at her house to celebrate Founder’s Day each
year. Reconnecting with Carol Mooney, an NPC Delegate, reinforced my amazement of
her knowledge of the sorority and Greek life in general. As the Director of
Alumnae Engagement, alumnae hold a special place in my heart and I could
continue to write about more women how these women inspire and motivate my
sisters and I to better ourselves and our chapter, each and every day.
I attended convention with six other sisters (Gillian Davis,
Rebecca Mignone, Katy Green, Meredith Carothers, Sarah Richin and Karah
Fissel). This was our first convention and we were all unaware of the impact it
would have on us. Representing Psi all weekend was an amazing and humbling
experience. Meeting chapters with only 30 sisters and sharing experiences with
them just showed us that no matter what size your chapter is our issues,
accomplishments and love for AST is the same. My sisters and I learned so many
amazing things about promoting positive change, the national council, being a
leader, tau honor council, social media and more. We are excited for the fall
to see our sisters and continue our amazing time at Psi.
I would like to thank all of our alumnae for continuing to
support the Psi chapter and for your service to AST. Congrats to Jamie Jones
Miller for attending 9 National Conventions! Congrats to Charlotte Floyd for
attending 25 National Conventions! I would also like to congratulate our
chapter for winning 1st place in the people’s choice award for our collegiate
chapter scrapbook video and 2nd place for our 2012-2013 number of
community service hours! If you have not attended convention yet I highly
recommend it! The next AST convention is June 23-26, 2016 in Jacksonville
Florida!
Thanks for writing this, Olivia!! Convention was so much fun, I'm glad we got to go together!!
