AST Welcomes the Rho Pledge Class!

Last Tuesday evening when the doors to Wilson Hall opened, 61 beautiful new members ran down the stairs and into the arms of an excited Psi chapter.

After a successful week of formal recruitment, we couldn’t wait to extend bids and invite these ladies into our sisterhood.

Look at how beautiful these Rhos are!

“My favorite part about bid cel was seeing all the new members come out of Wilson. It was exciting to finally welcome them into AST,” says the Rho’s assistant pledge mom, Kara.

Recruitment this year wouldn’t have been so great with out the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of Psi’s remarkable recruitment chair Estelle, assistant recruitment chair Tori, and president Rebecca.

Although they didn’t seem nervous at all, Estelle says, “I was definitely the most nervous about making sure everything went how I planned for it to go. I had been planning for what felt like an eternity, so there were a lot of details that I wanted to be perfect.

Another thing I was actually very nervous about was falling on my face either in front of the house as well as walking up and down the steps to and from the basement in heels. I don’t exactly have the best reputation for being the most graceful person, so that was a pretty big worry of mine.”

Tori seemed to have similar fears before recruitment, “Initially, I was really nervous about falling on my face while cheering in front of the PNM’s but, throughout the entirety of the week I was most worried about doing a good job in aiding Estelle and finding a new member class that was every bit as amazing as last year’s.”

Last year's awesome pledge class

Sure some parts of recruitment are stressful, but some parts are incredibly fun as well. When our sisters performed our skit, the entire basement would erupt in laughter. You can watch the skit here.

“Everyone involved in the performance absolutely killed it,” says Tori, “especially Gemma Howard. It never got old, even after watching it 7 times.”

Estelle adds, "I always looked forward to her coming out and stealing the show. She killed it every time! The first time I saw her part in the skit I was actually in tears from laughing so hard, and I couldn’t wait for the rest of the chapter and all the PNMs to see it, too."

But Estelle’s favorite part about recruitment this year was cheering outside and greeting the PNMs as they walked into our house. She was awesome at it too, “it was so fun to see all of their excited faces as they walked in!”

We are so excited to have each of our perfect new members and can’t wait to see what they have to offer our chapter!

Tori explains, ”I have a lot of favorite parts from recruitment this year but nothing beats receiving the list of our newest members. Each name on that list made the lack of sleep worth it a little more and I don’t think we could’ve asked for a greater group of girls to make up our newest pledge class.”

Some Rhos and Pis bowling after bid cel

Now that recruitment and bid cel is over, what do these ladies have coming their way?

Kara tells us, “I am so excited to start the new member process with Sarah. We have a lot of things planned for this semester for the girls to get to know their pledge classes along with the other sisters in the sorority.”

Here are a few of the events Sarah and Kara hope to do with the Rhos this semester:

  • Scrapbook/composition book decorating
  • Rho brunches!/Getting food together on campus
  • Movie night
  • Nail painting
  • Tye dying
  • Dessert night with the Pis
  • Trip to Fear Forest
  • Trip to the puppy farm
  • Possible shopping day trip to Charlottesville
  • lots of icebreakers/games to get to know sisters
  • Overnight retreat at Camp Horizions
  • New Member Day hosted by FSL

“I can’t wait to see these girls go through the new member process and make lifelong friends with their pledge class and the older sisters. With all the events planned this semester it’ll be a packed next seven weeks, but the end result of seeing these girls become initiated sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau will be worth it," says Sarah.

Welcome to Psi, ladies.
