Year: Senior
Major: Communications Studies with a concentration in Public Relations
Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA
What inspired/motivated you to run for President: Easy. Sarah Hopkins, my big. Sarah is seriously perfect and probably the most motivating person in my life. I always want her to be proud of me. When I first joined, she became our VP of Organizational Development and of course, I wanted to be just like her. I had a director position my first year and planned to run for exec the next. When the time came for me to decide which position I would be interested in, she told me to
think about President and because of her encouragement. I applied. I don’t even know where I’d be without Sarah.
Best part of being President so far: I have been able to create such amazing and meaningful relationships with so many sisters with this position, it’s truly amazing. I love being able to help out in any way I can with any sister.
What does your job entail? I honestly don’t even know where to begin. On the most basic level, it’s a lot of paperwork and emails. Basically I’m the first form of contact for our national headquarters, JMU Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), other fraternities/sororities, and anyone else interested in working with AST. I’m “technically” the Chief Executive Officer of the chapter and serve as the Chair of the Executive Committee. I preside over all weekly chapter business meetings, weekly Executive Committee meetings and also attend weekly FSL required sorority president meetings, monthly CAB meetings, and meetings with Nationals. I represent the chapter at any other campus fraternity/sorority councils or student organization and I serve as a member of the
Tau Honor Council. There are a lot of other little things that come up like talking to officers about potential ideas and helping whoever needs it. It’s a job that never really gets “turned off” and requires a few phone chargers because my phone dies about twice a day from all the emails/texts ;-)
Your Favorite Memory of AST: One of the best days was my first bumper ball tournament. I was still a new member and I met SO many sisters that day. We all goofed off playing with the bumber balls and cheering on the fraternities. It was good clean fun and I left feeling so great about AST.
Other involvement on JMU’s campus: PRSSA, JMU Study Abroad, Lambda Pi Eta
What is your favorite thing to eat in Harrisonburg: My entire exec board (myself included) is disgustingly obsessed with Kyoto. I blame Brianna.
What is your dream job: I’d love to do the PR for a major high end cosmetic company.
What is your favorite song to listen to while driving: If it’s a sunny day and I’m driving on backroads, country music will be the only thing playing.
What is your current Netflix fave/ all time fave: Do I have to choose??? At the moment How I Met Your Mother but I’ve pretty much watched everything on Netflix.
What celebrity would you hang out with: Sophia Bush is my ultimate girl crush. Seriously she is one of the most motivating and hard working women and I love her!!!
