Sisterhood of the Traveling Letters

Kendall Christenson, a junior nursing major, studied abroad in the Spring Semester in 2017 in Salamanca Spain to obtain her Spanish minor. Helping out at the local elementary and middle school was one of the highlights of her trip and that experience helped her to improve her fluency.

Kendall's favorite memory from her travels was when she was in Barcelona and her and a friend got separated from the group they went out with. They didn’t want to wait in line for an hour for a taxi so when they started walking back to their hotel a bike taxi asked if they needed a ride. They hopped in, but the driver got lost on the way back so they ended up riding around Barcelona in a bike taxi for over an hour!

In between bowls of Paella, Kendall’s favorite purchase was a Dalmation faux fur jacket that we hope makes an appearance back at JMU in the fall! Her mom really encouraged her to study abroad and due to that helpful push she was able to experience something truly amazing and connect with so many different people during her journey abroad. She also had a little excursion to Italy over Spring Break and described her semester abroad as “the best experience and wishes she could go back because she met the greatest people and learned so much”. We can’t wait to hear all of Kendall’s stories and have her back at JMU!
